Vamos a la Firefly y Brasil
These next three weeks might as well what I’ve been waiting for my whole life. This weekend is Firefly, where me and 80,000 of my closest friends will get together, jam out to indie bands and not shower. I’ve been studying, if you will, for this for months. That’s right Haerts, get ready, I’m coming for ya. YOU TOO ROYAL TEETH. AHHH CASH CASH I LOVE YOU! However, never, EVER, EVERRRR Jack Johnson.
The whole weekend – from Thursday to Sunday – will test my survival skills (we are camping…in tents right? Heh), my stamina (I got pooped after 2 hours of listening to Brett’s band play at Caroline’s surprise party, a whole weekend very well might be the end of me), and my wallet (will I want to eat trail mix, for the 478th time, on Sunday, or will I shell out $20 for a veggie burger that tastes like cardboard mixed with a hamster cage? Only time will tell.)
Once that comes and goes, I’ll go to work for a week, then I’ll be off to Brazil. In case you’re wondering, this is the program I’m going to be a part of: http://hostellanavila.com.br/ and here’s the Facebook group with updates: https://www.facebook.com/hostellanavila .
I go from being super carefree and “whateverrrr” about it to being extremely nervous and frightened to being through the roof hyper and ecstatic. Seriously, like clockwork every fifteen minutes I’m a different emotion. FYI I’m chill about it on the 00s, freaking out on the 15s and bursting out of my chair on the 30s. Then I forget about it for a little while and the whole thing starts over.
If anyone has any ideas of what to do/see/people to chill with during my week 2, hollatchyo girl. Its funny how many people have connections down there. My cousin is dating a Brazilian dude and offered up his brother’s house boat for a stay, my other cousin did a mission down there and has recommended good food, my coworker went down last year and ran a half marathon (!) and sent me her itinerary, and this guy I met at a bar in Richmond has family who lives 3 miles away from the hostel in Sao Paulo I’ll be at. He called them up right then and there and told them to cook me dinner/drive me around. The only thing I’m missing is a travel buddy, but the more I think about it, the more I think I’ll be okay. Plus, if in doubt, I’ll post up at the beach and/or hike up to the Christ the Redeemer statue every day and spend a few hours holding my arms out like him. People have been asking what I’m most excited about and I just do that pose and say “seeing this guy!”. Everyone knows what I mean! Its the universal language!
About the friend/travel pal thing. I asked the hostel what the nationalities of the others would be and they promptly responded: USA, Jamaica, Philippines, Colombia, Egypt, Mexico, UK, Argentina, Brasil, China. OOOOOOeee. All its missing is New Zealand. These are all potential travel friends. And all I’m missing is my visa, which is due to get to me on the 24th but WHO KNOWS IF IT WILL.
PS How bout that USA game last night? I knew we were Ghana win the whole time.
PPS If you haven't heard the Aloe Blacc World Cup song you're missing out. Good luck not playing it 898739 times in a row like I do every other hour or so.
