We Indo Part 1
Indonesian Adventure part 1
Dear readers,
Greetings! It has certainly been a while. I missed blogging about the last few trips, mostly due to incredibly debilitating laziness (sorry devoted followers). Perhaps one day I'll go back and write about them in exquisite detail. Today is not that day. However, since I'm extremely chill and enlightened and ALWAYS live in the moment (this is a joke LOL), I'll attempt to describe to going ons of this current trip. What trip you ask?? Here goes!
In case you're one of the very few who haven't heard my diatribe about "that time I almost died in Chile", here's a lil background: Two years ago-ish, Dane hodgepodged a group of pals together for a trip to Patagonia. We were all acquaintances from our college days, but that was truly as far as it went. Well, when you almost perish together in a tent during a snowstorm on Christmas at the southern most tip in the world, a beautiful friendship is bound to happen. And it sure did. I love this fam (which has now expanded beyond just us 4) and would pretty much give up my first born for any of them. Especially in the past 6 months or so, life has been full of laughter and smiles and dubstep. A lot of dubstep. Ugh there's nothing like a good drop. Excision <3. So, when Dane decided to be adventurous and whatnot for six months in Southest Asia for the first half of 2017, the original four of us decided to go visit him at the tail end of his sabbatical. We settled on Indonesia for a 2 week trek. And now, here we are!!
Well, kind of. Our United flight out of Dulles had to make an emergency stop in Chicago, throwing our itinerary into a major tailspin. By the time they got us onto a new plane, we were 7 hours late and missed 2 connecting flights in a row. We got to Tokyo (where they put us up in a hotel and got free food! French fries and potato salad. Truly acclimated to Japanese culture) and had to think fast about what to do: do we take the vouchers United gave us and continue onwards to Manila, then to Kuala Lumpur, and then to Yogykarta, like our original plan, but a full 24 hours late? Or do we throw all that out the window and hightail it to Yogykarta, where we were going to meet up with Dane? Obviously we chose the latter option and ended up on this swag af Garuda aircraft, complete with color changing overhead lights and the movie Avatar!! Lots of legroom too. I'm calling it Hotel Garuda (this is an EDM reference, get wit it).
I'm pretty grateful for these pals because this situation could've been truly horrendous, and yet it's been a truly joyous few days. Everyone could've been panicked and stressed and in bad moods. However, there are no bad vibes to be found. Good vibes as far as the eye can see! At this very moment Emily has a full row on this aircraft all to herself and is sprawled out like a ferkin queen. Ron is right ahead of me settling in for a long bear snooze. I'm attempting to watch Wild but instead I'm sitting here writing this, and thinking about how Captain Sully managed to land that plane on the Hudson River. Truly inspiring stuff.
Some highlights so far have been my utter deliciousness on the 14 hour (!!!!) flight from Chicago to Tokyo. Flights are very cold but I couldn't locate the blanket that the airline gives you for overnighters, so I was powering through saying inspirational phrases to myself. "You are STRONGER than that blanket" was an actual thing that happened in my brain. Well turns out the blanket was in the lil pouch where the emergency instructions are the whole time. LOL oops.
Additionally, one of my seat mates (who looked uncannily like Turk from Scubs) decided to go to the bathroom during our descent into Tokyo. He smiled devilishly at me after he returned from his 15 minute (lol wtf dude!!) trip, as if we had some sort of inside joke. I guess now we do lol!
In case you were wondering what I am planning to reflect on during this excursion: nailing down my comedy routine with Emily. We have bits out the wazoo that need to be shared with the world, we just need to finesse them. I feel for Ron and Dane who will witness our successes and failures as we craft a comedy team for the ages. They're our guinea pigs, bless them.
Anywho, my next update will be from Indo. Stay tuned fam!!

Alex, love this blog! Have an amazing time. Can't wait for the next post!
