Get ready for a mish mash of thoughts.
Today on the metro:
Today on the metro:
-I'm sitting backwards on the train, reading my book, and a girl plops down next to me. "I have no idea how you read that going backwards, I would throw up everywhere." Semi-confused, because in fact I am reading the book forwards, I tell her "Oh that's interesting" and she shakes her head a little bit, and promptly leaves at the next stop. Alrighty. To each his own.

Music is a big deal in the office. In the course of a week there you'll hear a little of everything (except country, they all pretty much hate country) - from Robyn and Sufjan to Hans Zimmer to Fosty Ppl, gang's all there. Top 40 never makes an appearance, well, until today.
It was around 10:00, I'd been there for, say, 45 minutes. My coworker had Karmin Pandora on, interesting choice. I knew it was going to be a good day when her cover of King of Wishful Thinking came on, that's my jam. Well, lo and behold, I hear a familiar "Ba. Ba ba. Ba ba. Ba. Ba ba. Ba ba." It was none other than the smooth sounds of 1D. Bless my coworker's heart for keeping the song on. Why it was played on Karmin radio is beyond me. Other than both being in the realm of pop, they're slightly different.
I really like the way my boss deals with people. He must've read "How to Win Friends and Influence People" a few times through, because he is spot on with good ol' Dale in so many ways. For starters, if people are wrong, he doesn't cut them down right there. Start with a positive, then wind around and offer advice on how to fix it. There is nothing more miserable than getting your work criticized. One of the reasons why we all hated a certain professor was because she was so blatant: "Ew what is this? Fix it."
My boss, on the other hand, uses a different approach. He might very well be thinking the same thing, who knows? He will always point out things he really likes. Then he brings up points as to why other aspects of the design won't work, and then steers us to how we can improve. I noticed this especially the other day. He was out of the room, and the rest of us were discussing a site map. Whenever one of us said something another disagreed with, we all said "no" right off the bat. Hearing "no" kinda gets to you! Hearing it a few times kindaaa sucks. He popped back into the office and joined the discussion, and quickly turned the whole mood around with a few "Ahh I see where you're coming from, it just might work better if this..."s.
If you haven't read the aforementioned book, I suggest doing so. It will teach you lots of common sense (ask questions, people like to talk about themselves, as my dad always says, "the most interesting people are the most interested") and might even change the way you interact with people.

Got pretty bad news this week. Andy Samberg, the love of my life, my hopes, my dreams, is leaving SNL. If for whatever reason you're reading this and have no idea who I am, and will only leave knowing one thing about me, it is this: I have loved SNL more than I have loved many people in this life. That's a little extreme, but its my way of saying that I have stuck with this show through the "bad times" and will keep watching despite the departure of my one and only. (Although after seeing him on the MTV movie awards say that his best kiss ever was with his "dog's butthole", I might have to take a step back and rethink my options here). I respect the opinion of anyone who says it hasn't been funny in recent years, and must respectfully disagree with you. If you don't think that Laser Cats, Get in the Cage, Jack Sparrow, Our Time, Lulu Diamonds, Taco Town, the Californians, and the Norweigan Actors Playhouse, (to name a few) has been funny, then you have no sense of humor and are probably an uptight ass. But hey, that's just my opinion. I love the show and love all that has spun off of it. In particular, Andy has been my boy since the beginning. He came on the show in 2005, and before that I was watching him on Channel 101 (online) doing a spoof on the OC called The 'Bu. Please watch, especially if you were an OC fan. (That being said, anyone at all who has ever spoken a word about the Bachelor/Bachelorette needs to watch Burning Love. Pokes fun at absolutely everything. From the "Hose" ceremony to Ethel Beavers, it is pure genius. Also, you can see Jennifer Aniston in a panda suit).
I'm very sad to see Andy go, as well as Kristen. Thanks to her, I'll never be able to say a city in California the same again. SNL has some big shoes to fill.
