My People

I hope you all have people in your life who are just completely interesting, in every possible way. I don't mean interesting in this sort of way:

"I'm a ______ and a _____Man and a _____ and a _____ and a ______ and look everything is on my Facebook see see see?!?!?!"

Yes, I guess that's interesting. However, your interests are probably gummy bears and clouds. I'm talking about people who interest you beyond their resume. Your accolades are just awesome, you clearly must be interesting if you can rack up so many awards and stuff. But more often than not, you're a bit two-faced and not very nice. Just throwing that out there.

I mean people who get you excited about your own life. They're so kind and generous and funny and adventurous and just plain interesting that you start to imagine your life taking the same kind of flight. They're probably not seeking the limelight, not trying to "social climb" byway of their organizations. They are completely themselves, and they probably don't think of themselves as all that interesting.

That's a good thing.

At lunch today, after being informed of all the reasons why I shouldn't hitch-hike, my mom asked me "so who is the most interesting person you've met while at Tech?" I quickly dug up 3 people that I genuinely think are interesting people. There are more, to be sure, but these people in particular stood out to me.

My reasoning for choosing them kind of went as follows: "Well, they're super good at what they do, but are very humble, funny, good natured, fun to be around, ask a lot of questions, and are super goofy." They all do very very different things. One is a designer, one an engineer, one studying neurophysiology. Thinking on it now, what they do is the least of who they are.

While writing this I can think of a ton more people that I'd add to the list, maybe not all as strong contenders in every single category listed above (my one friend is so fun to talk and argue with, but I definitely wouldn't describe him as kind...or humble...and he wouldn't either haha) but definitely are being kept around for a reason: they add something to my life. And in the case of the three people I described to my mom, they all make me want to be a better person. They all make me feel like when Caroline, Emily and I blasted Darren Criss singing Teenage Dream in the car, or when I was 13 and listening to Sam tell Frodo that "there is good in this world, and its worth fighting for!" for the first time.  You know, alive and epic and stuff.

I hope none of you keep around people that drag you down or don't do anything for you. Don't go running around burning bridges, (networking is key, right?) but at least don't constantly hang out with people that aren't pushing you forward, or people that at the very core of your being make you sick.

[Editor's note: thought catalog sort of beat me to the punch! man...]

Now if anyone knows how to cure plantar facitiis (sp) in about 2 hours or so, that would be splendid knowledge to have. If I have to run 15+ miles at once, once a week for the next 4 months and that leaves me basically crippled for 3 days after the run, that's gonna be a no-go. Every step is like knives, like KNIVES! Help me gifted runner friends.

and finally. just ferking do things. good night and good luck!
